What is CuttingPaths?
CuttingPaths is an online community-driven marketplace for sharing free or premium laser cutting files, CNC files, and Vector Artwork. It’s a place where creators, makers and collaborators can come together and share their ideas and files in the laser cutting/CNC space.
What is laser cutting?
Laser cutting is a precise manufacturing process that uses a laser beam to cut materials into specific shapes and designs.
What is a laser cutting file?
A laser cutting file is a design created in a digital format that is used to guide a laser cutting machine to cut or engrave materials such as wood, acrylic, paper, foam, or fabric. These files can include either the software for sending jobs to the laser cutter(.lbrn2, .rd) or design files created in a vector eidtor(.svg, .dxf, .ai).
What type of files can be used for laser cutting?
Common file formats for laser cutting files include SVG, DXF, AI, EPS, and PDF. Laser cutting files need to be in a vector format(with some exceptions when it comes to bitmap engraving). Vector images are a collection of mathematical lines that the laser-cutter can travel along in order to cut or engrave your working piece.
What’s the difference between laser cutting and laser engraving?
Laser cutting involves cutting through the material, while laser engraving involves etching a design into the surface of the material without cutting through it.
What software can I use to create laser-cutting files?
Software for creating laser cutting files are vector drawing programs including Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, & Inkscape.
How do I use a laser cut file?
The process of using a laser cut file involves importing the file into your laser cutting software, setting the material, cutting and kerf settings, and then sending that job to your laser cutter/engraver.
Are there any restrictions on the size or complexity of a laser cut design?
The size and complexity of a laser cut design may be limited by the size and capabilities of the laser cutting machine being used. Some machines may have limitations on the maximum size of a design, or may not be able to handle very intricate designs. Consult your machine’s manual for more info.
Can I use laser cut files for commercial purposes?
That all depends on the license attached to the design you’re interested in. It’s important to check the license terms of the specific file you are using to ensure that it allows for commercial use.
How do I download a laser cut file?
You can download a file from the design’s page by clicking the “Download” button or by accessing the file list in the “Files” tab below the design’s images.
If the design is a paid product, you must purchase it before you can access the files. Simply select the item you want, add it to your cart, and complete the checkout process. Once you’ve completed the purchase the item’s download links will be available to you in 3 locations: 1. The downloads section in your account. 2. The item’s page in the “Files” tab. 3. You’ll be emailed a downloadable list of the files.
Can I use a laser cut file with any laser cutting machine?
It depends on the specific laser cutting machine being used. Some machines may have compatibility limitations, so it’s important to check the design’s description and size as well as the specifications of your machine before purchasing a laser cut file.
Can I sell laser cut files that I create?
Yes, as long as you have the rights to distribute the laser cutting files, you can sell laser cut files that you create through CuttingPaths’ marketplace.
Can I modify a laser cutting file that I purchased?
Yes, you’re free to modify any laser cutting files that you’ve downloaded or purchased. You may not be allowed to redistribute those files based on the item’s license. It’s important to check the license before redistributing files.
Can I distribute other people’s work on CuttingPaths?
No, you may not upload other people’s work on CuttingPaths.com unless you own the rights to it. CuttingPaths is a community for sharing work you have created. We take artistic theft very seriously. If you steal someone’s work and upload it on CuttingPaths, your account will be banned.

Uploading free stuff is great but you can also charge for your designs!
Cutting Paths’ commission is 15% + $0.09 (~5% for transfer fees) for each purchase made through the site.
